HELP & HINTS on viewing Videos:
Q: What program do I need to view these videos?
A: You need the video streaming program called RealOne (sometimes called Realplayer). It may already be installed on your computer. If you try clicking on a video streaming button, e.g. the "ADSL" or "CABLE" or "56K" buttons, and a RealOne video player pops up and begins playing the video, you're already set. If you don't have RealOne installed, you can download a free version by clicking here, or go to Real's web site to see their expanded offerings of video streaming programs by clicking here.
Q: How do I know which video button I should click on?
A: The quick answer is "ADSL". The longer answer is that it depends on the speed of your Internet connection. The videos on Michael Sinelnikoff's site have been encoded into two different speeds. At present, the ADSL and CABLE buttons are equivalent, and are meant for "High Speed" Internet users. The 56K button is meant for low-speed Internet users. This is explained a bit more below:
If you have a Cable modem (such as through @Home, Videotron, Cogeco, Rogers, or other Internet Service Providers who provide you Internet access bundled with your Cable TV) then click on "CABLE". This is "High Speed" Internet access, and the video should stream nicely with good quality video and sound.
If you have an ADSL connection (such as through Internet Service Providers like Sympatico HSE (High Speed Edition) then click on "ADSL". This is "High Speed" Internet access, and the video should stream nicely with good quality video and sound.
If you have a dialup modem (such as a U.S. Robotics modem, either inside your computer or external to your computer) and you use a normal phone line to dial into your Internet Service Provider (it may be termed "56K dialup"), then click on "56K". This is low speed Internet access, and the video quality will be much less than ADSL or CABLE, and the sound quality may be somewhat degraded as well.
If you experience an extremely bad video or audio experience using "ADSL" or "CABLE" buttons, try clicking on the "56K" button. If you are still experiencing extremely bad video or audio problems, there may be other factors involved in the situation, such as the amount of network traffic between your computer and our servers. Unfortunately those kinds of situations are out of our hands. We suggest you try viewing the videos at another time of the day and see if that helps.
Q: Why does the RealOne say "Buffering" before it starts playing?
A: Real is pre-loading some of the video before it starts playing; This usually means you'll have a better chance at a continuous viewing experience. It tends to Buffer more on the larger/better quality videos. It should only last about 12 seconds maximum unless you've got a bad network connection.
Q: RealOne says "Rebuffering" and then never resumes. Why?
A: Sounds like network congestion between your computer and our servers. With all of those Microsoft vulnerabilities being exploited by Code Red, Code Red II, Code Blue, and other worms/viruses, there seems to be a lot more junk traffic on the 'net these days. If the problem persists, try using the "56K" button for a lower resolution version of the video, or try again at a different time of day.
Q: I've tried everything. I can't get it to work.
A: Oh, sorry. There may be other factors involved. If you've really tried everything, then we may be able to help you if you e-mail us and give us a detailed description of the problem you are having, at webmaster@MichaelSinelnikoff.com. Please note that there may be a delay before we can respond, so please use this as a last resort only. Thank you.
